Understanding how concrete behaves over time, and how this affects the safety and durability of buildings, is an important topic in architectural education. With this perspective, our laboratory organized a three-day workshop entitled Reaction and Microstructure – foundation for: control of degradation in concrete.
The workshop brought together around 30 researchers and students from six research groups at the National University of Singapore, Tohoku University, The University of Tokyo, and Nagoya University. The program consisted mainly of student presentations, followed by open discussions on concrete performance, durability, and the use of new and recycled materials in construction. Participants actively exchanged ideas beyond institutional boundaries.
We were pleased to welcome Prof. Guoqing Geng from the National University of Singapore as a guest speaker. His lecture provided students with valuable exposure to international perspectives on concrete materials research. We also sincerely thank Prof. Ippei Maruyama and the Nagoya University Global Multi-Campus Seed Funding for their support.
Our laboratory values hands-on learning, open discussion, and strong links between architecture and materials. Students interested in joining our lab for graduation research, master’s projects, or PhD studies are welcome. We will continue to develop national and international research exchange platforms, offering an open and inspiring environment for students who wish to learn and grow through research.
