The research project “Understanding the initiation of steel corrosion in RC structures exposed to marine environment” (lead by Assistant professor Aili, Associate professor Igarashi, in collaboration with Assistant professor Geng at the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering of Singapore National University) has been selected for Nagoya University Global Multi-Campus Seed Funding Grants.
This collaboration prioritizes knowledge exchange and mutual learning between Nagoya university and National university of Singapore, focusing on how each group’s expertise can enhance the other’s research capabilities. The two teams will share research approaches, experimental techniques, and analytical perspectives to build a more comprehensive understanding of the moisture and ion ingress processes near steel reinforcement.
This project places strong emphasis on the development of early-career researchers. The exchange visit of Singapore team to Nagoya University and associated activities will provide NU students with meaningful opportunities to engage across institutional and disciplinary boundaries. A joint workshop titled “Reaction and Microstructure: foundation for control of degradation in concrete” is scheduled for 15th-17th December. Researchers and graduate students from Japan and National University of Singapore will present their work and exchange know-how through laboratory visit and demonstrative experiments.
